KIRAN (Karachi Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine) has officially upgraded its cancer care capabilities by inaugurating its second state-of-the-art Halcyon linear accelerator. This expansion—funded by the KIRAN Patients Welfare Society and the Strategic Plans Division (SPD)—increases the hospital's capacity to treat up to 400 patients daily and ensures free treatment for all deserving cancer patients.
KIRAN, the largest public-sector cancer hospital operated by PAEC, has officially inaugurated its second Halcyon Linear Accelerator (LINAC), a cutting-edge machine that enhances precision in radiotherapy. This milestone adds to the hospital’s efforts to provide the most advanced cancer treatments available. ??
With this new addition, KIRAN now operates four linear accelerators, significantly increasing its capacity to treat up to 400 patients daily — nearly doubling its previous capacity! This means faster, life-saving access to treatment for cancer patients. ??
The Halcyon LINAC offers precision with IMRT and VMAT techniques, ensuring targeted treatment while minimizing harm to healthy tissues. Plus, the system’s patient-centered design provides a more comfortable experience, with quieter motion and enhanced communication features. Dr. Muhammad Asghar, KIRAN’s spokesperson, emphasized that this advancement will allow more patients to access cutting-edge care. The new machine is also made possible through generous support from the KIRAN Patients Welfare Society (KPWS) and the Strategic Plans Division (SPD), ensuring free treatment for deserving patients.
